Our Mission

Spiritual dimension of Sustainable Development

The first thing which comes to our mind about sustainability is the dynamic equilibrium in the interaction of the population and the carrying capacity of its environment. This is applicable to all kinds of species on the planet and their environment. This concept of sustainable development is crucial but is often overlooked as both the factors- Population Dynamics and Current pattern of Consumption and Waste requires a commitment to practices, integrity and truth which we still prefer to ignore.

Both these factors affect one another in the continuous process of coexistence. We humans impact the carrying capacity of the environment through two main channels- Demand on Resources and the Generation of by-products. Thus, sustainability balances the rate of consumption and the regeneration of the resources as well as rate of discard and absorption of the byproducts are at equilibrium.

Understanding the issue

The problem is the management of the human population and sharing of the knowledge and resources. The result of which is the system out of balance with the key component of the biosphere showing the sign of stress.

It includes climate changes, Tsunami, melting of glaciers, diminishing of freaks water resources, shrinkage of forest cover, desertification, ozone depletion and the ultimate loss of biodiversity. The relentless destruction of individual organisms, species, habitats and whole ecosystems is destroying nature.

This must be acknowledged as a major cause of alarm. It also includes the failure of the social and the economic institutions to address these issues effectively and in a timely manner. The prevailing sustainability issues that we are facing today have still not captured the attention of the individuals, communities, government or enterprises.

We at Vishwa Guru Bharat aim to spread this awareness among people everywhere who are genuinely concerned about the planet and the future. Our objective is to foster a well functioning alignment between the individuals, society, economy and the regenerative capacity of the planet life supporting ecosystem.

The five key principles of Sustainable Development:

To enact the comprehensive sustainability agenda, we need to follow these five core principles of sustainable development:

  • Ensure that the flow of resources through and within the economy is balanced.
  • Adopt an appropriate system which is fully aligned with the planet’s ecological process.
  • Ensuring the essential diversity of all forms of life in the biosphere is maintained.
  • Maximising degree of freedom and self realisation of humans without affecting the others.
  • Recognition of spiritual values like wisdom, love and energy which link us to our planet and its biosphere.

There are many factors shaping the conditions upon which the desired state of sustainability depends which includes awareness, consciousness, frameworks and values by which society organises itself. We have grouped all the relevant factors into five major domains comprising the 5 major principles of sustainable development.

The five domain include:

  • Material domain: This domain constitutes the basis for regulating the flow of materials and energy which underlie existence. It involves the physical process which prescribes the limit of possibilities in the ecosystem and underlines the productive potential for the use of resources.
  • Economic Domain: The domain provides the guiding framework for defining, creating, and managing wealth. It combines with the system of subsidies and regulation to drive the market, reducing the adverse impact of economic activity.
  • Domain of Life: Humans are one among thousands of species that our planet comprises. And, yet we are destroying the natural habitats of various species by experimenting with nature. This domain highlights how modern science joins the ancient traditional activities in recommending procedures to maintain the biosphere for all forms of life.
  • Social Domain: It provides the basis of social interactions and degree of freedom for all forms of life, without any superiority for any one.
  • Spiritual Domain: Spiritual and religious value systems are the vital sources of knowledge and motivation. The combination of values, insights and energy without which sustainable development is impossible to achieve. The domain comprises necessary ethics and value required for guiding human actions based on principles of love, peace, kindness and sharing.

Ultimately, the creation of a peaceful and sustainable environment requires a significant reorientation of individual and collective goals and a profound transformation in attitudes and behaviors of individuals. Thus, creating a planet in which the diverse peoples of the world live in harmony with one another and with nature.
